Auckland Bee Club Xmas BBQ 2011

Went along to the Auckland bee-club Xmas barbecue this morning.

It was a great collection of old and new members. Got to met two of the old presidents of the bee club, Tom and Ian.

We heard some great stories about the history of the club and that Sir Ed Hillary used to come to meetings with his Dad. Sir Edmund Hillary is famous for climbing Mt Everest.

I was recording the names of people attending the day, and now have an appreciation of what Oliva does :). She is normally the meeter and greeter on club days, but couldn’t make it today.

The bee quiz was a great success with our team drawing with another team for second place. We won a box of chocolates, which is always a great prize :).

I also won third place for one of my photos :). Chris Bailys photo of a bee was fantastic, hopefully it will be printed in the club journal.

All in all a good day, but no working with the bees today. Just talking about them. We will be working with the bees tomorrow at the Franklin bee club.

Here are photos of the day (click to enlarge)

Missed what seems to be an informative and fun event

My beekeeping club over here in England had our Christmas party this week too, but even though it was an indoors event it was so cold most of us kept our coats on! Jealous of your xmas barbecue!

By the way love the falling snow effect on your background.

      Thanks for the feedback Emily.

Hmmm yes it was a nice day, started off pretty windy. But still managed to get sun burnt :)

Yes its strange that you guys have snow at Christmas, its all BBQ and jandals other here :)

Thanks for the comment about the snow, not really applicable to New Zealand Summer, but part of Christmas. Have a great Christmas Emily.

      See ya…Gary
