What is a Podcast?

Have you heard the term “podcast” and always wondered what there are?  Well this article is for you.

The definition of a podcast is:-
A podcast is a digital medium consisting of an episodic series of audio or video.

An easier way to describe is it’s like the modern version of a radio show that you listen to or download from the internet.

The beauty of podcasts are you download the shows for Free and listen when you have time, you don’t need to tune in at a specific time.

Here is a small video to explain podcasting in three minutes:-

You can listen to audio podcasts when you are:-

  • Commuting to work
  • Running on a treadmill
  • Gardening
  • And my favorite, building Beehive Frames

How can I listen to podcast?

Well do you own a mobile phone?  Most Smart phones these days have a podcast application available for them. Download the “Podcast Application” on any apple device or “BeyondPod” on the Android devices.

Where else?

Other devices that can play music probably can play podcasts as well, such as ipads, ipod touches etc.  You don’t need a iphone to listen.  But you will need to itunes account to download free podcasts on other apple devices.

On your computer, find the podcast page and click the play button for that show.

Do Podcasts cover all sorts of Topics

Yes you better believe it, you can get podcasts about any topics.  News, gardening, comedy.  But best of all Beekeeping :).

Are there any New Zealands Beekeeping Podcasts?

Yes New Zealand has its very own Beekeeping podcast called “The kiwimana Buzz”, Myself and Margaret are the hosts and we talk about our beekeeping adventures, interview Beekeepers from around the world and discuss beekeeping news. It would be great if you could give our show a listen and tell us what you think.

On this show we are talking about more thieving mongrels, Getting Ripped-Off in the UK, alienation of New Zealanders?, “is my backyard big enough” and what’s goin’ on across the ditch? This is Episode One Hundred and One of our beekeeping podcast.

    Actually any music players out there, from ipod shuffles to mp3 players made in China can play podcasts as long as its in .Mp3 format (as it always is).

    I have a Nokia N8 and I have downloaded and listened to a few podcasts from you guys. I enjoy listening to you guys.

    Keep up the good work and more podcasts to come, pleease??

    1. Thanks so much Jasper for your feedback, yes indeed most devices these days can play podcasts.

      Most smart phones all have podcasts apps on them; we are looking at a podcast app for Android users in the future.

      Yes we will have more podcasts coming soon; we will be recording episode 74 tomorrow night. So look out for that one.

      Loved your comment on the youtube video as well, perhaps you will be our first million dollar patron :). It’s been great this month we have got two new patron’s.
